Pastor’s Corner: Getting a Thick Skin

Pastor’s Corner: Getting a Thick Skin

Ecclesiastes 6:21-22 Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you.  Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others.

Have you ever been angry with the driver in front of you for not using his/her blinker when they were turning? I hate it when they do that. Oh yeah, and don’t you hate it when they run those yellow lights? You are supposed to slow down, not speed up to get through it.  As I write these scenarios, I laugh because I do all these things, but am critical of people when they do it. I am such a hypocrite.

HPC, God has been showing me lately in His Word that I need to develop a thick skin. There is usually an element of truth in criticism that God is using to humble me. Am I open to God’s work through the criticism of others? I want to be thankful for the Holy Spirit and the conviction He puts on my heart when the above scenarios take place. May each of us see every situation and conversation as a way for God to sanctify His children.

In Christ,
Pastor Greg
